Top Things to Do in Portland on 4th of July

Cool stuff is always happening in Portland but more so on Independence Day! How does this quirky city celebrate the 4th of July? Pretty much like the rest of America – with grill, cold beer, and fireworks. BUT quirkier.

After 2 years of cancellations due to Covid restrictions, 4th of July events in Portland are finally back this year, and we’re sure it will be with a bang. Lots of bangs and vibrant colors lighting up the sky.

What To Do On 4th Of July In Portland

Waterfront Blues Festival

After cancellations due to Covid restrictions in the past 2 years, the Waterfront Blues Festival at Tom McCall Waterfront Park is back in full force this 2022 and is definitely on our top things to do in Portland this 4th of July

The festival will feature R&B, soul, and funk artists and legends from Portland’s local music community and beyond, including Taj Mahal & The Phantom Blues Band, Galactic featuring Anjelika Jelly Joseph, and Curtis Salgado.

Held at Tom McCall Waterfront Park from July 1-4, 2022, bring your family and friends and enjoy the live music, family-friendly activities, and an array of Portland’s best food trucks, breweries, and more

River Cruise

Not sure what to do on the 4th of July in Portland? There’s always the river cruise. There are a few cruises scheduled for 4th of July weekend, and they all sound fun and all-out nice, to be honest.

Portland Dinner & Fireworks Cruise

If you want to splurge a little and go high-end this independence day, hop on board the Portland Spirit for a sumptuous dinner while cruising the Willamette River. For $110 – $135 per person, you’ll get bread, salad, your choice of entree and dessert, and a private table. There will also be live piano music to serenade you while dining and a historical narration on the outer decks of the boat.

After dinner, you can stay on the boat and watch the Waterfront Blues Fest fireworks on the boat deck or the dock.

Blues Cruise by the Waterfront Blues Festival

Sail along the Williamette River listening to the sweet… sweet… sounds of blues and your favorite drink on hand from the deck of the Portland Spirit. How magical does that sound?

The Waterfront Blues Festival has definitely gone all out this year, with lots of 4th of July events, activities, and surprises lined up for everyone this weekend, including the Blues Cruise. With an all-star lineup to accompany you through the cruise and a ‘full bar and food’ (for additional purchase), you don’t wanna miss this!

The Blues Cruise will run from June 30 to July 4. Check the lineup, schedule, and tickets HERE

86th Annual 4th of July St Paul Rodeo

Bring out the inner cowboy and cowgirl in you and head out to St Paul for their 86th Annual 4th of July Rodeo. The event will run from June 29 to July 4 with a carnival, rodeo performances, BBQ feasts, and fireworks all throughout.

Join the community’s fun, and colorful 4th of July parade at St Paul Main Street starting at 10 am. Then head to the city park site for the carnival opening from 11 am until 11 pm. There will be 2 rodeo performances for the day: the Matinee at 1:30 pm and the Evening Performance at 7:30 pm. Both will be at St Paul Rodeo Arena.

Portland Craft Beer Festival

It simply isn’t Portland if there’s no craft beer. After 2 years of hiatus, we’ve missed this beloved festival so much and could not be more ecstatic that it’s back this 4th of July 2022. The three-day event will run from July 1-3, 2022, at the Fields Neighborhood Park. The festival stays true to its name and will only feature a wide selection of local beers, ciders, and wine originally crafted within the city limits of Portland.

Of course, it ain’t a real beer festival without table tennis, corn hole, a giant jenga, hula hoops, and more! The event is only open for 21+ on July 1-2. But on Sunday, July 3, it’s open to all ages from 12 noon to 6 pm.
