Events, Festivals, and Concerts in Portland that you don’t want to miss this July 2022
Summer has arrived, the world is dusting off its COVID cobwebs, and the weird and wonderful city of Portland is back in full swing with a lot to offer you this July! So, get out in the warm summer heat and enjoy the best events and concerts in Portland this season.
July is a great time to visit Portland, as rain is rare and the nights are long. The sun doesn’t set until around 9pm, so you have all day and night to explore what the city has to offer. Whether it’s tickling your taste buds at the Oregon Brewers Festival or clicking your fingers along with the jazzy tunes at the Cathedral Park Jazz festival, you’re guaranteed to have a great time!
Here are some of the best things to do in Portland this July:
Portland’s Waterfront Blues Festival. July 1-4, 2022
Portland’s largest and longest-running music celebration, the Waterfront Blues Festival, is returning to downtown Portland’s Waterfront Park for the first time since 2019. It’s also the festival’s 35th anniversary, so buckle up, it’s going to be a good one!
Running from July 1-4, with four different stages to choose from, what better way to spend this Fourth of July Weekend than in one of the best music festivals in Portland? Set over the beautiful eight-acre riverfront, this year has a lineup of 100+ blues, soul, funk, and R&B artists, as well as some of Portland’s favorite food trucks, wineries, breweries, and more.
There will also be family-friendly activities, and fireworks display over the Willamette River for everyone to enjoy. So whether you want to relax and enjoy the music or get your boogie on at the world-famous Zydeco dance floor, everyone is welcome to soak up the sun at downtown’s Waterfront Blues Festival this July.
Tickets can be bought at the door, but get yours early at their website in case they sell out!
Prices vary depending on how many days and different tiers.
Oregon Zoo Summer Concert Series – July 1/15/29. 5:30pm – 8pm @ Oregon zoo
The Oregon Zoo Summer Concert Series is one of the most unique events in Portland. And it is what it says it is – a series of concerts in Portland held at the Oregon Zoo every summer since 1979.
This July, you’ll have 3 different Zoo Nights to choose from: one on July 1st featuring Melao de Cuba, the Too Loose Cajun Band and the Caleb Klauder on the 15th, and Reeb Willms Country Band on the 29th.
Each event offers a variety of vendors, food carts, and beer, just as diverse as the zoo’s residents! What better way to spend the long summer nights here in Portland than enjoying good music in Oregon Zoo’s beautiful gardens, surrounded by wildlife and good people too!
It’s fun for all ages, with keeper talks and educational fun for kids and adults alike!
Tickets are $19-24 per person and can be purchased from their website.

Sip the day away trying all that’s new in craft brew at the Oregon Brewers Festival. With around 40 beers and 2 ciders from across the state participating, enjoy life’s sweet nectar along with friends and thousands of other happy drinkers.
The Oregon Brewers Festival is one of the nation’s ‘longest-running and best-loved craft beer festivals’ founded in 1988 by Portland Brewing Co’s founder Art Larrance.
The event is free to enter, but you have to purchase packages, mugs, or tasting tokens to try out the participating beers and ciders at the festival.
Gates open at 11:30 am, and taps pour from noon to 9 pm.
Cathedral Park Jazz Festival @ Cathedral Park. July 15 – 17, 2022
Portland’s Cathedral Park Jazz Festival is the longest-running jazz-and-blues festival west of the Mississippi. This annual summer favorite is a 3-day showcase of Portland’s homegrown talent, natural beauty, and neighborly charm. Held in Cathedral Park, beneath the beautiful St. Johns bridge, this free concert is simply a must.
Pack a blanket or chair, pick a prime spot on the sloping grass nestled underneath the bridge, sit back, relax, and enjoy a sunny afternoon in Portland listening to some of the best Jazz and Blues in town. Whether you fancy a day out with your family, are a jazz fanatic, or just want something to do, everyone’s welcome at the festival this July.
This amazing event is free, but you can support the festival by filling your belly from the local food vendors, wetting your whistle in the beer and wine garden, or leaving a donation for the groovers and shakers who are making it all happen.
These are just a few of the many things to do in Portland this July. Whichever events or concerts in Portland you attend this summer, you’re guaranteed to have a blast.
Now, if you’re looking for somewhere to rest your head in between, or just somewhere to relax for a few days, Ponderosa Inn has you covered. Nestled in the cozy suburb of Gresham and just 15 miles from downtown Portland, we can be your home away from home this July – allowing you to kick back and put your feet up in the picturesque landscapes of Multnomah County or dive into the action downtown.
